A Different Kind of 30 by 30 + A Life Update!

Happy Monday friends! It’s been a crazy time over in the 3 Black Cat Company world. I started a brand new job as academy director at TexARTS a few weeks and definitely hit the ground running with their annual showcase weekend and spring ballet. I’m excited to get the summer camp season started and see what our students produce! In addition, last week I had the chance to attend the 3rd Austin Blogger Mixer and the opening of the Austin Stitch Fix office. I am looking forward to sharing those soon!

A few years ago, I started a 30 by 30 list and from what I remember I think I’ve done pretty well – getting rid of clutter and moving towards a more minimalist lifestyle, visiting three new countries (which I’ve visited four: Brazil, Netherlands, Belgium and France), running a marathon, start taking my vitamins.etc. Unfortunately, Tumblr ate my list and I didn’t have another record (back up your blogs, people!). But I love the idea of accomplishing a goal or a set of goals by a deadline.

Now that I’m starting to establish a routine with work, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about motivation and what motivates me in different areas of my life. One area that I haven’t been very successful in is feeling comfortable in my own skin. One big part of that for me is my weight. My weight has been a roller coaster since I was young and the last few years has been more gaining weight than losing or maintaining. Before moving to Texas and really before starting grad school, I was actively running and doing yoga and pure barre. That is the last time I remember feeling comfortable in my own skin.

I completed my first and only sprint trialthon in 2008 (I attempted it again in 2009 and couldn’t finish the swim portion)

2009 is obviously where I started to head downhill…

Theta Nu!

2010 was a rough year for me, in terms of being comfortable in my own skin… I remember being so uncomfortable during this entire convention.

Herndon Festival 5K

Ran my first of many 5Ks in 2011, followed by a 10K in the same year, and then my first half and full marathon in 2012

2012 is last time I really remember feeling comfortable in my own skin and where I would love to get back to

As I’m getting closer and closer to 30, I thought I would try my hand at a different kind of 30 by 30. As an effort to feel more comfortable in my own skin, I want to try to lose a combination of 30 pounds and inches by my 30th birthday at the end of October. While just losing 30 pounds might be possible, I feel like would be miserable and that would be an unreasonable goal. So by working towards a combination goal of a total of 30 pounds plus inches, it stresses eating better and working out more.

Over the next few months, I’ll be sharing my progress and hopefully some tips and tricks that are working for me. Here are some of the tools I’ll be using the next few months:

Lose It!

I have been using Lose It! on and off for a few years now and have had a lot of success when I actively log my food – it keeps me honest about what exactly is going into my mouth. I’d love to be friends if you use it as well!  You can find me here.

Fitbit

I LOVE my Fitbit! While I have not been hitting my goal of 10,000 steps lately, I love seeing exactly how active I am, especially while on vacation. Roswell and I hit over 216,000 steps on our 10 day honeymoon trip – over 90 miles. You can find me on Fitbit here.

Couch to 5K

I’m so ready to return to running. In order to ease back into it, I’m going to be starting with the couch to 5K program. Another great reason to start with the Couch to 5K program is that I have had great success with interval training and weight loss in the past. There are a variety of different programs available on the internet – this is the schedule I’m specifically using.

Camp Gladiator

While the Couch to 5K program is my cardio plan, I looking forward to adding in some strength training with Camp Gladiator, an outdoor group fitness boot camp style class. I did a boot camp class with a trainer back in Virginia and dude, it was amazing. Looking forward to pushing my limits in this class! If you’re in Austin, I’d love to see you at a camp – and if you’re elsewhere, there are camps in Colorado, Florida, Lousiana, North Carolina and throughout Texas. If you do end up checking a camp out, I’d love for you to let them know that I referred you (just leave my email address hrmundwiler@gmail.com when you join!) – I’ll receive friend credits in return that will let me keep attending camp!
