Weekly Wrap: December 11-17

Two big lottery announcements took place this week (at least two that I was concerned about!). But first, let me tell you a story. A few weeks ago, Roswell and I sat down on the couch to watch the New York City marathon. As we watched Shalane Flanagan triumphantly cross the finish line, I may have teared just a little bit.  Okay, a lot of bit. In our marathon hangover, we immediately started discussing running another marathon and major one at that. And in our stupor, we both signed up for the Chicago Marathon lottery.

The next day, I totally regretted this decision and when tried a few times to pull my submission, but I could never figure out how. But I thought that I had very little chance of getting in and hoped that if one of us got in, it would be Roswell. Fast forward to December 12, I started watching my inbox and credit card for pending charges. Roswell got his email first (he got in) – and I noticed a charge on my credit card, so I thought I was in as well. I had forgotten that we had used the same credit card to register… so I was on a bit of a roller coaster all day. However, shortly before lunch, I got my email that I had also gotten into the marathon! So folks – we’re going to Chicago!

I’m nervous about training through the summer since my training this past summer was awful.  Thankfully I have Credit Union Cherry Blossom training starting in January to help me build a base (and possibly work towards a spring half marathon PR?!) and I want to ride that wave through marathon training.

Weekly Wrap: November 27 – December 10

I woke up to some AMAZING news this morning – I have been selected to be a Nuun Hydration ambassador for 2018! I am super excited to represent Nuun in 2018 – it has been my go to since it was first introduced to me by my Running 101 coach! I love that it is made with plant based ingredients and helps replenish electrolytes after run. I usually end up drinking it on a daily basis to help avoid dehydration!

The last two weeks have been incredibly busy! I’ve kept up with my run streak – and while my 1 mile days are out numbering my 1+ mile days, I truly do feel like I’m learning to make time for running and hope I’ll be able to continue this after my run streak to incorporate some crossing training. (Who knows, maybe I’ll try a Yoga Streak in the new year!). I ran my second race of my run streak, and it was ROUGH – but it feels like a turning point and it has gotten easier every day since that race.

Weekly Wrap: November 6 – 19

So the last two weeks have not been very active. While I started strong by attending BodyPump (on a Monday no less), it quickly went downhill from there as I struggled with low energy fighting off whatever cold or illness my body had picked up. Thankfully, I’m starting to feel normal again and will hopefully get back into the swing of things this week.

Instead of a daily recap, I thought I would share some exciting (non-fitness) things that I did the last two weeks and what I’m looking forward to accomplishing before the new year.

CUCB 2018 Race Ambassadors

Hi friends! No weekly wrap this week because I was sick most of last week, so it wasn’t very exciting. I’ll recap last week and this current week (which isn’t going any better than last week so far) next week!

However, I wanted to pop in and say congratulations to the 2018 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run race ambassadors that were announced today!

I had an awesome time last year as an ambassador and I can’t wait to see this group rock their training and races!

Weekly Wrap: October 30 – November 5

Last week was a bit all over the place. Roswell had the flu (or at least, what we think was the flu), so I spent a lot of time running around, picking up soup and other comfort items when someone is sick, as well as trying to still do my workouts and keep the house in one piece. I honestly don’t know how people with families do it!

Still I really only missed one planned workout and then swapped another one, so I’m not feeling horrible about my accomplishments last week. I thankfully am feeling alright (*knock on wood*) and Roswell is back at work today, so back to normal!

Weekly Wrap: October 23-29

Oh man, I was not sure I would get to post today, friends! I recently made the decision to moved from wordpress.com over to a self hosted site, so this weekend I started the process. It might be a bit clunky around here while I learn the ropes (send me all of your tips!).

Last week was alright in terms of training. Since I don’t have anything big on the horizon, I’m just using a 10K – Level 2 training plan from Garmin to help build a foundation for Cherry Blossom training when it starts in the spring. I missed two runs just because my schedule was all over the place. But I’d like to renew my commitment to working out after work (or at lunch). I also need to take a look at the group fitness schedule to find my new class! I’ve been really enjoying BodyPump, but I also want to try new things, so if you have any suggestions, let me know!

Weekly Wrap: October 16-22

Happy Monday, Friends! Congratulations to any runners who toed the starting line this weekend – but especially to those at the Marine Corps Marathon and my fellow 10Kers! Shout out to my husband for PRing his marathon and going sub 4:00!

After finishing the 10K, I tried to make it over to the marathon course to cheer on the runners, but I found myself crossing the wrong bridge and couldn’t make it there and to the finish line in time for Roswell to finish. So instead I stopped by Starbucks and grabbed a coffee (thanks to Holly and Tricia!) and headed to the finish line to spectate.

Oh man, if there’s one place my empath side comes out, it is the finish line of a marathon. I can’t even start to count the number of times my eyes teared up Sunday morning watching the runners fight for every step up that hill (because you know, it’s an uphill finish – *only Marines would have an uphill finish at a marathon*). But standing near the finish line, it reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Kathrine Switzer:

Weekly Wrap: October 9-15

This week flew by – I only managed two days of running due to a tweaked muscle in my back, but am feeling better already. I am looking forward to running the Marine Corps Marathon 10K this weekend – while Roswell is tackling the full marathon distance.

I am trying to find my motivation to lose weight. Well, I’m not sure it’s motivation I lack. I feel like a few years ago when I wanted to lose weight, I just had to watch what I was eating a bit more and work out a bit more. But now that I’m a bit older, it doesn’t come quite as easily. The past few weeks have been incredibly frustrating, because I feel like I have been working out an increased amount, but I’m not seeing any changes. There is definite truth in the idea that “abs are made in the kitchen” but I’m also sensitive to my struggles lately with B.E.D. which has been triggered by dieting and restricting my intake. I’m trying to make going to the gym in the evening a routine. My thought is simply to head to the gym or the track everyday after work (even rest days) just to get into the habit.

Weekly Wrap: October 2 – 8

This week was great, up until the horrible humid weather this weekend! My new class for the week was a special outdoor boot camp at the rec center. I get anxious when it comes to these types of classes, because I don’t know anyone going and I worry that I’m not going to be able to keep up or the instructors will be typical college dudes that aren’t very nice. I am glad to say that I was anxious for no reason – the instructors were great, incredibly nice, supportive and motivating; and I was able to hold my own with the interval circuit. I’m excited to try BodyPump this week as my new class!


The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run Social Media Race Ambassador application is open! I had an amazing experience last year as an ambassador and I’m excited to join the Social Media team this year as their Instagram lead.

Weekly Wrap: September 25 – October 1

I am really loving the Garmin Connect training plan this time around. I’ve tried a few different training plans, but none of them seemed to mesh with what I thought I should be doing (another training plan, too many walk run intervals, too much running), so I found them hard to follow. However, this time around with the 10K training plan, I’ve found that it’s a really nice plan to follow and it’s giving me great balance between running intervals and easy slow runs. I missed one workout last week (60 minutes of cross training), but I managed 3 runs and 1 cross training day. This week, the training plan includes 4 runs (including a 5K race) and then I’m adding one day of cross training to try my new fitness class for the week.
