Dopey Challenge Training – Week 24

Things are starting to wind down in this training process. I’m hitting the point where I’m very tired from training, so I’m trying to make sure I’m getting enough sleep and eating right (though holiday cookies are calling my name!). With this week done, I only have one more long run in training before taper starts. Each week, the number of miles that gave me trouble in the middle of the training plan (12 miles in particular) seem easy compared to the 16 and 18 mile runs towards the end of the plan. This coming week will be my biggest stretch in training so far – another mini Dopey, this time four days in length, 2.5, 5, 10 and 18 miles. I also am aiming at at least two days of yoga and continuing my physical therapy exercises.

PS Time is running out for #CUCB2017 lottery. It closes at 11:59 pm on Monday 12/12! Enter here!

Monday 12/5: Bikram Yoga (90 minutes)
Felt good to be back on the mat again, this time trying out a new Bikram yoga studio. I loved Hatha yoga, but I feel like I really get Bikram and how the poses work for me. I did ease into it and had to spend some extra time on my mat getting used to the heat again, but I’m  happy to return to Bikram.

Tuesday 12/6:  1.78 treadmill miles (29:01) 16:17 min/mi
Checked out the staff gym on campus at lunch time and did some intervals on the treadmill. It took about 15-20 minutes to walk to and from the gym, then a few more to change so it definitely cut into my run since I only get an hour for lunch, but I was happy to have the option!

Wednesday 12/7: 3.56 miles (46:38) 13:06 min/mi
Evening run around my neighborhood. It got very chilly quickly out there!

Thursday 12/8: AM: 2.26 miles (30:03) 13:19 min/mi | PM: Bikram Yoga
A few more miles on campus, this time outside. After work, I headed over to yoga and already saw improvement from Monday night.

Friday 12/9: Rest

Saturday 12/10: 15.53 miles (3:33:59) 13:47 min/mi
Fairly uneventful long run. It was very empty on the trail and felt like I could go a mile or so without seeing anyway. Met my husband at the end for lunch and then metro’d home!

Sunday 12/11: Rest

Total mileage for the week: 23 miles

Dopey is so intense! I grabbed the Hal Higdon training plan for Dopey and modified it because I’m doing a challenge that isn’t quite that long. But the base of the training plan is the same. I admire people who can handle the Dopey challenge- I’m not sure I would be able to!

After only running a 5k on Saturday and a half on Sunday, I have a new respect for you Dopey Challenge participates! Yall are the beast!!! Thanks for joining us each week! I hope you get to meet up with Holly while there, she’s doing the full!

Lunch at the end of a long run has got to be the best motivation ever! I’m just doing the marathon and I’m at the tired and (I admit) very cranky stage. I hope the weather will not be too warm for us. We have a local ZooLights too. It’s always so much fun. Thanks for linking, Heather!
