International Chicago 5K Race Recap

Even before I had bought my tickets to Chicago, I registered for the International Chicago 5K. I figured that, while I was doing everything I could to figure out how to get to Chicago, if it didn’t end up working out, I wouldn’t be out too much money. I am so glad that it did end up working out, because I had the best weekend in Chicago with my friends Rachel and Natalie!

This is the first race that I’ve registered for that mailed my bib before the race. I guess they did this in order to alleviate any back ups at the expo, because it was part of the Chicago Marathon weekend.

Can't wait to check out the windy city with @nataliemalotke and @rhoovlie!!!

We hopped on the train bright and early Saturday morning and headed to Daley Plaza, where we were able to see the Picasso statute inspiration for the Chicago Marathon finishers medal.

The course for the 5K took runners into Grant Park and right by the marathon start line. After the short park tour, the course took a turn down the Lakefront Trail and ended back in the park, very close to the marathon finish line.

We relaxed during the 5K, simply enjoying the sites and not hesitating to stop for photos! We ended up finishing right around 40:04.

I loved the finisher’s hats. I was a bit hesitant about them, because I don’t wear hats a whole bunch, but I ended up confessing that I actually kind of loved by the end of the weekend. And I was really happy to have the hat later on that afternoon when we went on our architecture river cruise!

After our run, we clearly celebrated our 5K with brunch at Orange with A Peel – where I had the best coffee I’ve had in my entire life. 5/5, would recommend!

Post 5K bRUNch at #orangechicago! #nattyicerunsamarathon TOMORROW!!!
