Weekly Wrap: August 28 – September 3

Two days were definitely required to recover from the epic weekend we just experienced! I am working on my race recaps, but I had a great time at the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend despite the high temperatures! I can definitely understand what I’ve read about this being the best race weekend at Disneyland – it definitely lived up to the hype. And I’m experiencing all of the post Disney blues right now, ready to plan our next Disney adventure.

However, I am glad that this half marathon is behind me – and I can start concentrating on shorter distances for a while. Roswell and I have (jokingly, but not jokingly) made a deal that if I can place in Corral A for a Disney race, he would stop and all of the character photos I would want. Since I placed in corrals G and F this race, I’ve got QUITE a bit of work to do.

Weekly Wrap: August 21-27

3BlackCatCo_Navy5Miler_Week15This last week was weird – I was a little off my schedule, thanks to wanting to spend ALL THE TIME with our new addition. Instead of heading to the gym in the evening, we headed home to play with Stack. I still managed to do a core/upper body workout on Monday, but by the middle of the week I’d lost my steam. The gym was closed for training Wednesday through Friday, meaning we couldn’t head there after work and I couldn’t run to work because I didn’t have a place to shower.

HOWEVER, Saturday morning, Roswell convinced me to head out for an easy run and it was the best idea ever. Definitely helped get my momentum back and I had a great long run on Saturday. I obviously can’t wait to board our plane on Friday for our long weekend at Disneyland! Anyone going to be there?!

I went with the flow this week, which led to only two one runs, but I swam and met with my personal trainer twice. I’m leaning more and more towards dropping down to the Navy 5 Miler (instead of the Half Marathon). My goal of PRing my half marathon time is not likely to happen and the more I push, the less fun running is becoming. I’ll still be running the Double Dare Challenge at Disneyland two weeks before. But that weekend is just for fun, not for time. I’d like to drop down in distance and be able to look forward to the race, rather than toeing the line knowing that I haven’t put in the time to reach my publicized goals.

Have you ever dropped down in race distance?
Have you ever lost your race/running mojo?
What did you do to get it back?

Weekly Recap: The In-between

So next week, I’ll be starting my Credit Union Cherry Blossom training recaps but I’ve returned to the gym and eased back into training after completing the Dopey Challenge. I took an entire week off after the challenge to rest and recover. I probably should have done a bit more stretching and foam rolling during this week, but between the last few days of vacation and then trying to get back in the swing of things after 3 (!!!) whole weeks off of work and trying to function with the inevitable post-vacation/Dopey Challenge cold that literally hit me on the plane home, I was happy just to make into bed every night.
