Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run: Week 3

Despite only running twice this week, I do feel more accomplished! In addition to those two runs, I went to yoga once, personal training, body pump and spent some time on the elliptical. So overall, I feel pretty good about what I did this week. Especially with the cold and flu floating around our office, I’ve been waking up with a sore throat nearly every day. But since it’s stayed above my neck and out of my chest, I’ve continued running and working out, making sure to head to bed early as I can (which is really hard to do with the Olympics!).

Do you workout when you’re not feeling well?

Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run: Week 2

I’m starting to feel like a broken record. This week, I was not able to set a routine like I would like. I can’t seem to find my rhythm. I only managed three runs (I was aiming for four) and I did not do any yoga this week. I was stuck at home one day as we had a contractor coming to install something at the house and even though he finished earlier than expected, I could not seem to muster up the will power to go for a run.

Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run: Week 1

And the first official week of #CUCB2018 is complete! This week was a little weird – we spent Wednesday evening at urgent care due to some back pain Roswell was experiencing. Thankfully he’s on the mend. I’m still attempting to find a balance between my strength training and running, in addition to the nutrition plan from my trainer. I’d like to practice yoga at least once next week as well as add a recovery run after my long run.

Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run: Training Kick Off!

This week was the PR Training Program kick off for the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run training! The training plans officially start Monday January 29 (and there’s still time to sign up!), so this past week was just an easy ease into the training plan week.

I’m working with my personal trainer twice a week, and because I requested early in the week so my legs weren’t dead for my long run, it’s back to back on Monday and Tuesday. This makes the rest of my week a little complicated to plan since I’d like to get in another run. I’ll have to capitalize on my warm ups and make those miles count. I want to use the Cherry Blossom training to build foundation for my marathon training which will start towards the summer months.

How do you balance running and cross training?
Are you training for anything?

Weekly Wrap: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, friends! I realize it’s nearly the end of January but since this is my first post this year, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to wish you a happy new year!

I did take a bit of time off unintentionally, as the end of last year and the start of this year has been busy! Since my last post, I finished the RW Run Streak, traveled to Chicago and Gaitlinburg, and taken a (probably too) long break from running. I thought I would recap a few of those and then talk about 2018!

Weekly Wrap: December 11-17

Two big lottery announcements took place this week (at least two that I was concerned about!). But first, let me tell you a story. A few weeks ago, Roswell and I sat down on the couch to watch the New York City marathon. As we watched Shalane Flanagan triumphantly cross the finish line, I may have teared just a little bit.  Okay, a lot of bit. In our marathon hangover, we immediately started discussing running another marathon and major one at that. And in our stupor, we both signed up for the Chicago Marathon lottery.

The next day, I totally regretted this decision and when tried a few times to pull my submission, but I could never figure out how. But I thought that I had very little chance of getting in and hoped that if one of us got in, it would be Roswell. Fast forward to December 12, I started watching my inbox and credit card for pending charges. Roswell got his email first (he got in) – and I noticed a charge on my credit card, so I thought I was in as well. I had forgotten that we had used the same credit card to register… so I was on a bit of a roller coaster all day. However, shortly before lunch, I got my email that I had also gotten into the marathon! So folks – we’re going to Chicago!

I’m nervous about training through the summer since my training this past summer was awful.  Thankfully I have Credit Union Cherry Blossom training starting in January to help me build a base (and possibly work towards a spring half marathon PR?!) and I want to ride that wave through marathon training.

Are you running Chicago?! Leave me all your Chicago running tips below!

Weekly Wrap: November 27 – December 10

I woke up to some AMAZING news this morning – I have been selected to be a Nuun Hydration ambassador for 2018! I am super excited to represent Nuun in 2018 – it has been my go to since it was first introduced to me by my Running 101 coach! I love that it is made with plant based ingredients and helps replenish electrolytes after run. I usually end up drinking it on a daily basis to help avoid dehydration!

The last two weeks have been incredibly busy! I’ve kept up with my run streak – and while my 1 mile days are out numbering my 1+ mile days, I truly do feel like I’m learning to make time for running and hope I’ll be able to continue this after my run streak to incorporate some crossing training. (Who knows, maybe I’ll try a Yoga Streak in the new year!). I ran my second race of my run streak, and it was ROUGH – but it feels like a turning point and it has gotten easier every day since that race.

Are you running a holiday race? Tell me all about it in the comments!

Weekly Wrap: November 6 – 19

So the last two weeks have not been very active. While I started strong by attending BodyPump (on a Monday no less), it quickly went downhill from there as I struggled with low energy fighting off whatever cold or illness my body had picked up. Thankfully, I’m starting to feel normal again and will hopefully get back into the swing of things this week.

Instead of a daily recap, I thought I would share some exciting (non-fitness) things that I did the last two weeks and what I’m looking forward to accomplishing before the new year.

Weekly Wrap: October 30 – November 5

Last week was a bit all over the place. Roswell had the flu (or at least, what we think was the flu), so I spent a lot of time running around, picking up soup and other comfort items when someone is sick, as well as trying to still do my workouts and keep the house in one piece. I honestly don’t know how people with families do it!

Still I really only missed one planned workout and then swapped another one, so I’m not feeling horrible about my accomplishments last week. I thankfully am feeling alright (*knock on wood*) and Roswell is back at work today, so back to normal!

Has the flu reached you yet this season? What are your go to home remedies?

Weekly Wrap: October 23-29

Oh man, I was not sure I would get to post today, friends! I recently made the decision to moved from over to a self hosted site, so this weekend I started the process. It might be a bit clunky around here while I learn the ropes (send me all of your tips!).

Last week was alright in terms of training. Since I don’t have anything big on the horizon, I’m just using a 10K – Level 2 training plan from Garmin to help build a foundation for Cherry Blossom training when it starts in the spring. I missed two runs just because my schedule was all over the place. But I’d like to renew my commitment to working out after work (or at lunch). I also need to take a look at the group fitness schedule to find my new class! I’ve been really enjoying BodyPump, but I also want to try new things, so if you have any suggestions, let me know!
