Weekly Recap: The In-between

So next week, I’ll be starting my Credit Union Cherry Blossom training recaps but I’ve returned to the gym and eased back into training after completing the Dopey Challenge. I took an entire week off after the challenge to rest and recover. I probably should have done a bit more stretching and foam rolling during this week, but between the last few days of vacation and then trying to get back in the swing of things after 3 (!!!) whole weeks off of work and trying to function with the inevitable post-vacation/Dopey Challenge cold that literally hit me on the plane home, I was happy just to make into bed every night.

Monday 1/16: 5.76 Bike miles (20:52) plus 12 more minutes on a recumbent elliptical

Ugh, I like bikes, but they hurt my bottom! I guess I should look at bike shorts if I want to continue that cross training.

Tuesday 1/17: Rest

Wednesday 1/18: 1.68 treadmill miles (30:00) 17:51 min/mi
plus 2 sets of single leg squats and single leg deadlifts

Thursday 1/19: LPYoga Roots (60:00) 

This yoga class was described as a “foundation class” which I mistakenly thought was more of a beginner class. Since I am still recovering from Dopey, I wanted something a little easier, plus flow yoga doesn’t come easily to me. However, this class was much harder than I anticipated and I didn’t really jive with the instructors style. I’ll have to look more closely at future class descriptions.

Friday 1/20: 1.77 treadmill miles (30:05) 16:59 min/mi
plus 2 sets of single leg squats and single leg deadlifts

Saturday 1/21: Foam Rolling Workshop

I signed up for a free foam rolling workshop at Lifetime Fitness. While I regularly use a foam roller, I’m always concerned that I’m not using it correctly and I was hoping to pick up a few more tips. I learned some great mobilization techniques to get into knots and trigger points.

Sunday 1/22: 2.07 mile run (29:02) 14:03 min/mi

Kick off for the DC/Arlington PR Training program for the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run! Today was an informal run since the actual training plan starts on Monday. I have been using a ratio of 1:00 run to 1:30 walk this week and decided to continue for this informal run! If you’ve been considering doing the training program, there’s still time! Total mileage for the week: 5.5 miles!

I’m very happy with this week of training  and I’m looking forward to getting started on my Cherry Blossom training! I have three goals for next week’s training:

  • 1 yoga class
  • 1 strength training class
  • 1 track workout

    Nice way to ease back into the swing of things after the dopey challenge AND 3 weeks off of work!!
    Great job adding in single leg squats and dead leg lifts. Those are my two favorite ( as in hate to love and love to hate) lower body exercises.

    I think foam rolling instruction would be very helpful. I’ve never really known if I was doing it properly. Your bottom will get used to cycling. But, I do still wear padded shorts when I ride long mileage. I also have a gel seat cover. The Dopey Challenge is a huge accomplishment and you could have taken even more time off. LOL.
