Happy Monday, Friends! Congratulations to any runners who toed the starting line this weekend – but especially to those at the Marine Corps Marathon and my fellow 10Kers! Shout out to my husband for PRing his marathon and going sub 4:00!
After finishing the 10K, I tried to make it over to the marathon course to cheer on the runners, but I found myself crossing the wrong bridge and couldn’t make it there and to the finish line in time for Roswell to finish. So instead I stopped by Starbucks and grabbed a coffee (thanks to Holly and Tricia!) and headed to the finish line to spectate.
Oh man, if there’s one place my empath side comes out, it is the finish line of a marathon. I can’t even start to count the number of times my eyes teared up Sunday morning watching the runners fight for every step up that hill (because you know, it’s an uphill finish – *only Marines would have an uphill finish at a marathon*). But standing near the finish line, it reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Kathrine Switzer:

Monday 10/16: Elliptical (41:00)
I made another goal (aside from a new group fitness class each week) to attempt to go to the gym after work everyday, even if it was a rest day to stretch. I managed three days this week!
Tuesday 10/17: 2.00 mi (31:44) 15:53 min/mi
I did 2:1 intervals on the treadmill because the track was closed for a soccer game. I could have gone out during lunch, but I couldn’t find the motivation. I didn’t feel great during the intervals (I really dislike the treadmill…) and didn’t get a great workout in. Being inside, I don’t feel like my Garmin is as accurate, because while the treadmill said I was going 11:00 mi/min to 10:00 mi/min (increasing each interval) – my watch read 11:35 or slower. I don’t know who to trust, oh well.
Wednesday 10/18: Lunch Walk (60:00) & BodyPump (65:00)
We had another group lunch walk today, and it was beautiful out. After work, I went to BodyPump again. I didn’t meet my goal of a NEW fitness class this week, but I did make it to A fitness class this week, so I’m calling it a win. I went lighter on weights, knowing I had my race this weekend. I look forward to upping the weights next week.
Thursday 10/19 & Friday 10/20: Rest
I had a 25 minute recovery run on the schedule for Thursday and a 10 minute shakeout run on Saturday. However, I was not feeling it Thursday morning, and I had an event Thursday evening. And I still wasn’t feeling it on Friday. So I ended up with a longer shakeout run on Saturday, but still took is SUPER easy.
Saturday 10/21: 2.00 mi (31:46) 15:53 min/mi
Sunday 10/22: Marine Corps 10K: 6.36 mi (1:15:26) 11:52 min/mi
I had a GREAT race today. I started out slowly thanks to some walkers who decided to start in the earlier corrals (MCM & MCM 10K is self seeded) so I had to do some dodging. But it helped keep me slow in the beginning. I did negative split (woo!) with miles at 12:53, 11:58, 11:59, 11:29, 11:27, 11:34 and 11:30 for the last .2 (even with the uphill!).
Total mileage for the week: 10.35 miles
Training plan this week:
Tuesday: 25 min recovery run
Wednesday: 5:2 Intervals & Body Pump?
Thursday: 30 min cross training & 30 min recovery run
Saturday: 45 min Hill Run
Sunday: 60 min Long Run
