Friday Five – Five Fall Races

Happy Friday friends! I am hopping on the Friday Five Linkup bandwagon. Every Friday, 3 DC area bloggers: Mar from Mar on the Run!, Cynthia at You Signed Up For What?! and Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC to host a fitness themed linkup.

Since it is my first time joining, I thought I would share some of the races I’m looking forward to this fall as I’m training towards my goal of the Dopey Challenge in January. i’m registered for a few of these while others I am interested in registering for but haven’t yet.

Adventure Run – October 6
Not technically a race but a running event. Once a month, Road Runner sports hosts an Adventure Run at their stores. Roswell and I had seen the shirts in store, even happened to go to the store on an Adventure Run day without knowing it and asked if we were participating, but we never did. Well, with the two of us trying to integrate running into our lives more and more, I found out the Road Runner store in Rockville would be holding their last Adventure Run of the year on the first Thursday of October. So I immediately signed both Roswell and I up and told him afterwards. Yes, I’ll be getting up ridiculously early the next morning to fly to Chicago, but what’s life if not interesting!

International Chicago 5K – October 8
I will be heading to Chicago to cheer on a friend running the marathon Sunday morning – and she shared that they will also be doing a 5K the morning before. I’ve never been to Chicago and I can’t wait to experience this unique running tour of the city!

Maryland Great Pumpkin Run (5K) – November 5
I love fall and pumpkins and farm fall festivals and this race (will hopefully) includes all three of those! This race popped up on my Facebook feed and I was looking for races in our new state (rather than constantly driving to Virginia or DC to do races that we already know and love).

Annapolis Running Classic (Half Marathon) – November 19
I wanted to add a half marathon to our training schedule, aiming for November or December when we’d be up in our mileage. I had been having some trouble finding and deciding on one. I think I’ve landed on the Annapolis Running Classic but we haven’t registered yet. Have you run this race before? What did you think?

Jingle All the Way 5K – December 4 OR Ugly Sweater Run 5K -December 17
I know, I know – these are two races. But in all likelihood, we’ll only do one of them. I’m leaning towards the Jingle All the Way 5K (or 15K, newly added this year!), simply because I’m familiar with Pacers who has organized the race. The Ugly Sweater Run has very little details on their website, with a lot of information “coming soon” or “TBA”.

What are your fall racing plans? Have you run any of these races? Any races that I might have missed in the DMV area that I definitely should check out?

Looks like a great schedule! Chicago is my home town so I can’t wait to hear what you think of your marathon viewing experience – I have found it so inspiring that I ran it twice 🙂 I can’t seem to get pass the daunting task of running the New York City Marathon, but after that I’ll be able to concentrate on some more fun races.

I love the Jingle All the Way 5k by Pacers. I can’t do it this year because of a conflict so maybe I’ll look into that other one you linked too. But I do get nervous when races don’t have a lot of information on their websites. Have you looked into the Montgomery County Road Runners? http://www.mcrrc.org. They have a lot of low key races through the year that are cheap or free if you’re a member.
