Tis the season for gift giving! I know that I sometimes (okay, a lot of times!) struggle with exactly what I give my loved ones for the holidays. As you grow up, your priorities change from having the latest and greatest toy to somewhat simpler requests. I was chatting with my co-workers recently and mentioned that I would be happy to receive underwear for Christmas – simply because it feels like a luxury (as my underwear currently is still in okay shape) and I wouldn’t necessarily choose to spend my money on them. While you may not feel the same way about underwear as I do, I wanted to share some items that I hope any runner would like to open up this holiday season!

Race registrations can be expensive! I know that I would appreciate any sort of contribution towards any of the races (or traveling to said races, just saying) that I want to register for.
For those in the Northern Virginia/DC area, if you’re not sure about what races, I LOVE (and have personally received as a gift before) the =PR= Race Pass. For $110, receive four passes to use on =PR= Events throughout 2017. You can use the pass for four different races or for your family or a group of friends at one race. I’ve done several =PR= Races in the past as well as their training programs!
If you know what kind of clothing or fuel your runner likes, it is always nice to receive those as stocking stuffers or as a gift! I received an running themed Easter basket a few years ago that included a running shirt, sports bra, Jelly Belly Assorted Sport Beans and GU Brew! I thought it was perfect! I would love if my current favorite, Hüma Gels, turned up in my stocking!
Does your runner frequent the gym or another studio? It might be nice to put together a care package with items that would be great to keep in their gym bag. I’m thinking face wipes, dry shampoo, a new water bottle, etc.
Recovery / Self Care Gifts
Self care and recovery is very important for anyone active (and anyone really!). One of my favorite gifts last year was a set of bath bombs. This year, I personally would love a gift certificate for a massage!
For those who are big readers, it can be very inspiring to read about someone else’s running journey. One of my favorites is Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall. It’s a really great, quick read and I found it making me want to get out there and run.
A few books I have on my gift giving list this year are: The Road to Sparta: Reliving the Ancient Battle and Epic Run That Inspired the World’s Greatest Footrace by Dean Karnazes and Finding Ultra: Rejecting Middle Age, Becoming One of the World’s Fittest Men, and Discovering Myself by Rich Roll. Bonus: I would also love Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay!
